【摘要】:Thistestmethodmaybeusedtotestthesurfacewaterabsorptionofterryfabricsforbathtowels,bathsheets,handtowels,kitchentowels,dishcloths,washcloths,beachwear,bathrobes,andthelike.Differentspecificationsmaybeneededforeachofthesefabricsbecauseofdifferentapplications.Itisrecognizedthatsurfacewaterabsorptionisonlyoneofthecharacteristicsthattheultimateconsumermayuseindeterminingwhichterryfabricisacceptable.ConsultSpecificationD5433forothercharacteristicsthatmaybeapplicabletoterryfabrics.Thistestmethodisrecommendedforqualitycontroltestingofterryfabricsduringmanufacturingandproductcomparisonsofdifferentterryfabricsbymanufacturers,retailers,andusers.Thistestmethodmaybeusedfortheacceptancetestingofcommercialshipmentsofterryfabrics,butcautionisadvisedsinceinterlaboratoryprecisionisknowntobepoor.Comparativetestsasdirectedin5.4.1maybeadvisable.Incaseofadisputearisingfromdifferencesinreportedtestresultswhenusingthistestmethodforacceptancetestingofcommercialshipments,thepurchaserandthesuppliershouldconductcomparativeteststodetermineifthereisastatisticalbiasbetweentheirlaboratories.Competentstatisticalassistanceisrecommendedfortheinvestigationofbias.Asaminimum,thetwopartiesshouldtakeagroupoflaboratorysamplingunits(suchastowels)thatareashomogeneousaspossibleandthatarefromalotofmaterialofthetypeinquestion.Thelaboratorysamplingunitsshouldthenberandomlyassignedinequalnumberstoeachlaboratoryfortesting.Theaverageresultsfromthetwolaboratoriesshouldbecomparedusingappropriatestatisticalanalysisforunpaireddataandanacceptableprobabilitylevelchosenbythetwopartiesbeforethetestingisbegun.Ifabiasisfound,eitheritscausemustbefoundandcorrectedorthepurchaserandsuppliermustagreetointerpretfuturetestresultswithconsiderationoftheknownbias.1.1Thistestmethoddeterminestheabilityofaterryfabrictorapidlyabsorbandretainliquidwaterfromsurfacessuchashumanskin,dishes,andfurniture.1.2Thistestmethodisnotapplicabletonon-terryfabricssuchashucktowels,waffle-weavetowels,crashtowels,flour-sacktowels,andnonwovenwipes.Thesteepangleofthespecimenontheapparatusmaycausealargeamountofwatertorunoffthesenon-pilefabrics,orthelightweight/openstructureofthesefabricsmayallowalargeamountofwatertocompletelypassthroughthespecimen;thusthetestresultmaynotbeavalidmeasureofanon-terryfabric''sabilitytoabsorbwater.1.3Thistestmethodisnotapplicabletodecorativeterryfabricsthatwillnotbeusedtoabsorbwaterfromsurfaces.1.4ThistestmethodiswritteninSIunits.Theinch-poundunitsthatareprovidedarenotnecessarilyexactequivalentsoftheSIunits.Eithersystemofunitsmaybeusedinthistestmethod.IncaseofrefereedecisionstheSIunitswillprevail.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
